| Charter market sees east/west gap |
|
Wide divisions in the speed of economic recovery
across the globe are being mirrored in the box ship charter market. While rate
levels were equally depressed around the world during the worst of the
recession, owners are now reaping considerable premiums for delivery of tonnage
in Far Eastern export ports compared with the Atlantic. Meanwhile, supply of
geared 1,300teu tonnage is considered to be very tight, even in the Atlantic,
and rates should improve markedly on last done in the next fixture, the broker
commented.
