The SAI story

The Institute of Shipping Analysis was founded in 1993. At that time, most of the Stockholm based shipowners, who had their own inhouse analyst, were either taken over, bought or went bankrupt. It was a time for outsourcing and there was a man, Mr Kaj Rehnström, very knowledgeable and burning for spreading the wisdom of shipping, who founded the Institute.

The Institute recruited a new Secretary-General in September 2010, with the challenge to develop and update the concept, attracting more members and communicating this centre of excellence. It is the view of the board of the Institute that, in order to develop the business, it is essential to focus on strategical issues, on business environmental scanning and implementation of that in the various businesses.

There is also the element of the next generation to take into account, young people coming into the industry with new eyes and another way of communicating and absorbing information, following a generation of very knowledgeable entrepreneurs soon to retire. For all these reasons the Institute of Shipping Analysis is now rebranding its offer and making itself more available.
